"Choosing dresses"

Ok, so every girl loves a dress right? Well not all but I think we can safe fully say the majority of us do. So what makes the “Dress” a popular choice amongst many women? Maybe it has something to do with the vast majority and array of styles there is available, Maybe it’s because they are incredibly easy to wear and effortlessly classy or maybe we love that they are extremely versatile. The range of dresses presented today is purely immense and therefore one thing’s for sure there is a perfect dress for you!

Not only is there a perfect dress for each and every one of us but also a perfect dress for each and every occasion. Now, get the dress and the occasion right and were onto a winner right? Wrong! That’s were the difficulty comes in and not because of choice, more like too much choice.

Let’s say you’re looking for an occasion dress. Occasion dresses for a specific occasion! Now Occasion could mean absolutely anything so remember to focus on what it actually is before you go any further. Not all dresses are suitable for all occasions since you wouldn’t want to turn up to a wedding in your best clubbing dress would you? But once you have discovered the event then do some research because some occasion dresses are very versatile and can be used at various events or it may be that a dress can be styled in a completely different way allowing it be adaptable for other occasions.

Teatro dresses are dresses suitable for specific occasions but like we have already addressed the occasion is the priority before deciding on the dress. Teatro dresses are available in many different styles and designs so when it comes to finding the perfect dress be sure to do so with teatro designs. Women love a teatro dresses as they never fail to let us down and we can be sure to find one that’s just the right fit for our body shape. Now girls if you do not already own a fabulous Teatro dress then what are you waiting for? They are the ultimate wardrobe must- have and even if they never see the light of day that often, they are a must! Keep them as a keepsake for that dreaded invitation that just so happens to pop up out the blue when you least expect it, leaving us saying “arrgh! What do I wear?”

Since we are discussing dresses that are suitable for different occasion’s maybe we should combine a few categories to get some idea of how to accomplish this. Clubbing dresses, party dresses and going out dresses all mean the same thing, well almost! Clubbing dresses and party dresses are certainly the main two that could be worn at either but going out dresses merely depends on where you are actually going, If it’s a wine bar or maybe going out to dinner then yes by all means you could wear a nice party dress only make sure it’s not too ‘In your face’ since dinner is not the place to be having it all on show. Maybe you are looking for a going out dress that can take you from wine bar to club or even dinner to club, if this is the case then opt for something a little more demure or maybe wear a shrug, jacket or cardigan to tone the look down, until it’s time to party! Most clubbers hit the bars before the clubs anyway and clubbing dresses will not look out of place at most bars as long as it’s a bar where many other clubbers will be seen also, you do not want to be turning up to a posh place in a clubbing dress that’s full on sequins and sparkles or extremely short in length as you will stand out a mile. To combat a situation like this you could consider the following options, tone down the look of your clubbing dress, go to places many others dress alike, opt for a clubbing or party dress that’s a little more demure or wear that killer dress and go straight to the club!

Going out dresses could also mean formal. Are you invited to a very formal event? What does formal attire actually mean? Formal dress means a Tuxedo for men and a formal fabulous dress for women. For women formal dresses would be what one would wear to a prom, evening, cocktail party or even a beautiful wedding see bridesmaids in formal dresses. To find formal dresses you would usually need to check out the specialty departments at stores as usually formal dresses are not found amongst women’s regular dresses. Think Ball gowns when considering Formal dresses and look for stockists who specialise in making or retail such designs.

So maybe it’s a bridesmaid dress that you are looking for? Never rule out prom dresses for bridesmaid dresses if it’s big and bold that you are looking for. You may discover a perfect prom dress to be suitable. Nowadays many bridesmaids can be seen wearing shorter lengths and cocktail dresses maybe what you are looking for but if it’s a very formal wedding then try out some fabulous floor-length evening dresses and see how great they look. After long deliberating and I know how stressful weddings can be you finally chose your colour theme for your wedding, Hooray! And you have found a great wedding dress, Phew! now it’s time to work on getting the perfect dresses for the bridesmaids and flower girls. Recently it has become very common to have the bridesmaids’ dresses coordinating with colour but with the style of dress being different, this is particular effective when finding occasion dresses that suit all shapes and sizes. Bridesmaid dresses can be floor-length, short above the knee or just below, strapless, sleeveless, plain or very posh and formal. There are so many different options available for your bridesmaids that finding the right ones can only be decided with trying out your options.

Vice versa when looking for Prom dresses, consider bridesmaid’s dresses as there really is so much choice out there right now, not all girls want a big over the top prom dress and instead would prefer something small and cute instead! Check out the party dresses, going out dresses, formal dresses and occasion dresses when looking for prom dresses and do not forget that teatro dresses will never let you down.

Cocktail dresses! How often do we get invited to cocktail parties? Not that often right! So why would I ever need to consider buying one? Well, first of all let’s begin with saying cocktail does not always mean a cocktail party but rather referring to the length of the occasion dress, being knee-length or slightly shorter. Many people consider a cocktail dress to not be formal but everyone interprets the meaning of dress differently. A party dress, a prom dress, a going out dress or again a teatro dress make for a perfect cocktail dress, check the invite for clues on suitable dress codes.

Enough on dresses I hear you say! I know what I want; I know where to look now how do I know which occasion dresses look good on me?

Before we begin let us consider the main body shapes and then it’s up to you to decide which one you are. Consider that not every women fits into every category exactly but chose the one you feel closest to and it may help you get some sort of an idea.

Hourglass shapes- torso and hips are approximately the same width with a definite waist definition. Basically you’re a figure 8!

Rectangle shapes-torso and upper body are the same width as hips, with little waist definition. Basically you’re straight up, straight down!

Pear shapes-torso and upper body are smaller than hips with some waist definition. Bottom heavy!

Apple shapes-torso and upper body are wider than hips with little or no waist definition. Rounded midsection!

Inverted triangle shapes-Torso and upper body are wider than hips with little waist definition. Top heavy!

Ok, let’s break it down shall we;

For Clubbing dresses, Party dresses and going out dresses! Hourglass figures look great in almost anything as you have the ideal women physique and every other shape is trying to create you, you lucky thing! Just think Marilyn Monroe! Bodycon dresses; you can do tight but not too tight more like figure hugging, so go for it! For rectangle shapes and most tall women fit into this category, you can fake a waist by trying peplum styles but also remember you have smaller hips and so shift dresses will look great on you as they will not cling to your bottom half also rectangle shapes look great in layered outfits so try and layer up an evening dress with a nice jacket and bold accessories to make a statement and draw attention elsewhere.

Pear shapes are very lucky in that when you put on weight it goes to your bottom half first and the eye catches top the half of people but what you need to do is find the right balance so you could opt for extra detailing and bulk around the shoulders but having said that why not show off your slim top half with strapless dresses, a strapless maxi formal dress would be you ideal occasion dress. If you are a pear shaped that is self conscious of their bottom half then opt for dark block colours to minimise the appearance down below and something bright and bold above.

It’s a vice versa for inverted triangle shapes though as you are smaller down the bottom half and need something like a full skirt or pull ball skirt dress to help balance out your dimensions. For prom dresses and bridesmaid dresses full on puffy skirts look better on you. For evening of formal try a fish tail which creates the illusion of fullness at the bottom the balance out your broader to half.

Apple shapes need to try and create the illusions of a waist which can be quite tricky, many apple shapes assume that loose fitting dresses are better on them but I’d recommend anything but, since loose fitting dresses will only make you look bigger than you really are. Here are the best options of you; Wrap dresses are you best friend! They usually have tie detailing on the side which takes the attention away from your tummy area and more to the side area of the body. Wrap dresses are especially great because of ‘A’ shape of the skirt. It creates volume just above the knee and skins over the tummy, the width of the bottom of the skirt will make you waistline appear smaller and showcase you fabulous pins. For Evening dresses or party dresses go for something that has wider hem lines, bold prints and if you’re brave enough try a ruffle across the bust or over the shoulders because anything that draws the eye away from the tummy with apples is usually the way to go!

Nowadays many designers know what women want, and they do design dresses suitable for all shapes and sizes but once you have discovered what looks great on you I would stick with it! This doesn’t have to be boring, far from it! You are looking to continue to buy the same shaped cut of fabric not the same design it has on it. A particular cut may be the most flattering on you but the length could vary, the detailing could be totally different, the colour, the print, the pattern could change every time depending on the occasion it needs to be worn. To try and make a totally different cut suitable for you is a very difficult task to do, unless you’re a professional dress designer and it could end up being a total disaster. So stick with what you know and experiment with different designs of dresses instead.
